E-learning

The need to retrain or upskill colleagues is greater than ever. It makes sense that we need to adapt our way of learning accordingly. e-Learning is the way to create a tailored learning intervention.

A digital learning method is designed this way, but it must be accurate and interesting. Especially when it comes to complex and sometimes tedious subjects. That's why we at Indall have specialized in engaging e-learnings packed with mixed media.

What is E-learning?

E-learning literally stands for Electronic Learning. It encompasses all forms of learning activities where interactive use is made of online possibilities.

Having e-learning created can serve various purposes. For example, it can be intended as a digital document for retraining on a specific topic or as an instruction manual for the end user. Especially within the technical sector, there are many different applications for e-learning.

By converting knowledge into e-learning, for example, you can extensively inform your new engineering colleagues about the various configurations and processes that apply. Or more broadly, by making topics like lean working, cybersecurity, or workplace safety digitally accessible.

The training and onboarding of employees is also increasingly going hand in hand with e-learning. Not everyone works at the same pace. An onboarding or training program in the form of online learning modules means that employees can process the same information at their own pace and quickly revisit it whenever they want. To then apply it in practice.

In this way, important knowledge is also secured within the organization. And it does not disappear when that one colleague retires or makes a career switch.

Effective video education

Many e-learning modules mainly consist of text. That's a shame, as reading long pieces of text is anything but inspiring for most people. Therefore, the use of mixed media is a crucial component of successful e-learning.

A popular form of this is an e-learning video, also known as video education. You might think of those videos in which someone reads dry material next to a flip chart. That is precisely not what we mean. Through good scripting, a nice presenter (m/f), and supportive, animated visuals, the story is really made clear to the learner.

Good e-learning consists of the right balance between information transfer and visual explanation. Think of interactive heatmaps that make patterns visible, or gamification where the learner's choices determine the learning path. Animations help make complex processes understandable, while infographics provide an overview and clarify the logic behind each step.

As the icing on the cake, the e-learning is, of course, developed in your own corporate style. This way, information is recognizably linked to your organization, even if you choose to share the e-learning with third parties, such as suppliers or subcontractors.

The power of video education

Co-founder Remco Guijs conducted research on digital retraining for the technical sector on behalf of the University of Twente and was the project leader in the development of an academic e-learning program.

At Indall, we use our expertise in areas such as energy, technology, manufacturing, sustainability, and innovation to create e-learning and video solutions that teach employees (or customers) in an interactive way. Fully tailored to what you need. For example, we assisted Gasunie in communicating their technical norms and standards, as well as ENGIE in training their B2B account managers about the changes in the market due to sustainability. As you can see, with e-learning, you can go in any direction.

Have e-learning created by Indall

When developing e-learning, the collaboration between the client and the developer is central. You possess the knowledge that we must translate into an interesting and educational learning experience. Therefore, we follow a number of steps that ensure we create a successful e-learning together.

  1. Determination of the scope

What should be included in the e-learning and how can we define this? Who is the target audience, what are the learning objectives, and what should the participant know and be able to do after completion? And equally important, who within the company possesses this knowledge and can make decisions?

  1. Setting up a framework

We discuss how we can best convey the information. We take into account complexity, the target audience, and the best way to present the material. Should the modules follow a fixed learning path, or are flexible and short microlearnings better suited? And in what ways can the content be enhanced with video education or interactive media?

  1. Knowledge sessions with our learning experts

We ensure that the right message and information are conveyed. It is crucial to involve the right knowledge holders in this process. Because they know better than anyone whether the content is accurate and complete. Proactively and independently, we gather knowledge from them and place it in context.

  1. The module environment

By placing the e-learning in a module environment (we use, among others, Articulate Rise), we can determine the dynamics and flow of the e-learning. Where should the mixed media come in? And how do we ensure that it is presented in bite-sized pieces and remains engaging to follow?

  1. Developing the material

Time to shape the whole thing. In this phase, we develop visuals, videos, interaction methods, and questions. This is the step in which we turn a piece of text into an interesting and interactive whole. Because that is the way to engage people with the content and to excite them. Whether it’s with heatmaps, animation, or video, anything is possible!

  1. Delivery

Your e-learning is ready! Of course, we always conduct a number of thorough checks first and often a pilot with a selected group of test subjects. Is everything clear and technically in order? Then you will receive the e-learning in the form of SCORM packages. These can then be directly integrated into your own LMS and subsequently offered to employees.

  1. Evaluation

We won’t just wash our hands of it. After you’ve had some time to use the e-learning, we will get in touch with you. Is everything working properly and as expected? Do you have any questions or comments? Let us know!

The benefits of e-learning

  • Always ready-to-go

As the name suggests, e-learning is an online learning method. So if you quickly want to look something up on site on your mobile, or brush up on your knowledge in the evening on the couch, you can just do that.

  • Pause, rewind, and fast forward

Is something not entirely clear, do you want to do it step by step, or do you specifically want that one piece of information? With an e-learning course or educational video, it's a piece of cake.

  • Keep it interesting

Keep the participant's attention engaged by offering a variety of text, video, and interactive elements. This makes learning much more enjoyable, because (almost) no one is looking forward to boring and dry material.

  • Record it

An e-learning course lasts for years, which means that important corporate knowledge is stored and safeguarded. Is the information in need of an update? Then you simply update it! And your new colleagues? They are immediately immersed in the company culture.
